Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. S6 Edge vs. S6 Active – Geeky Gadgets

In typical geek fashion, Samsung has once again pumped us up with a great dose of variety in their flagship Galaxy S6 line with the Samsung Galaxy S6, the S6 Edge and the Galaxy S6 Active. As we take an in-depth look at these devices, we’ll soon see that the S6 Active sports many new, attractive benefits and comparable hardware to the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, while at the same time making a few compromises in the process. To get a better idea of what we are talking about, let’s dive right in and examine the S6/S6 Edge versus the S6 Active from the top down, examining each phones’ parts carefully.

Phone Design

The first stop on our tour of the Samsung Galaxy S6 line is the design of the phones. The Galaxy S6/S6 Edge and the S6 Active were built with different types of users in mind and to that end, they are constructed of different materials even though they share a similar appearance. The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge exemplify a design of sleek elegance with a metal and smooth glass construction that, while is very nice to look at, is not the sturdiest when it succumbs to impact damage from even the shortest drop. The Galaxy S6 Active, on the other hand, is built for the true adventurer. The S6 Active is perfect for any outdoor enthusiast or Indian Jones-type. It sports tough plastic construction with IP68 rating for dust protection and it is also waterproof, capable of withstanding complete submersion in water 1.5 meters deep for up to 30 whole minutes without any ill effects on the device. The S6 Active is also ready for the wilderness with a camouflage motif. This look may not be for everyone, but it’s likely to please its intended user base. All the wonderful benefits of the S6 Active did come with some necessary compromises such as no fingerprint scanner and button replacements that are now fully tactile in nature. At the end of the day, the Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge is sure to please those who demand the prettiest design, while the S6 Active is sure to attract the attention of those who are the most active in otherwise non tech-friendly environments where durability is necessary.

Phone Display

When it comes to the display, all S6 models have the same glorious 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a Quad HD resolution. The Galaxy that stands out here is the S6 Edge with its curved edges that can display quick notifications, tickers, and of course the ever-so-practical clock. For all the coolness points the S6 Edge gets for its sleek look, it also leaves something to be desired in practical, everyday use: when our hand hits the edges, it triggers a long press on the screen, occasionally interrupting our mobile navigation. The S6 and S6 Active on the other hand, fit very comfortably in the hand and using it one-handedly was not an issue. At the end of the day, the clear winner really comes down to preference with the S6 Edge getting the edge for looks.

Hardware Under the Hood

The S6/S6 Edge and the Samsung S6 Active have the same gear under the hood where it really counts, with the S6 Active taking the clear advantage over its sister phones. The S6 Active sports a bigger and more powerful battery (3,500 mAh) that does not disappoint. With semi-heavy use, a full 12 hours of work was completely possible. Additionally, we often had a decent amount of juice left to play with at the end of the day, to the tune of 20%. Fast charging is also available on the S6 Active just like its sister phones. Those who like the pressable fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge may find themselves wanting as the S6 Active doesn’t have one. However, the Active has something the other two don’t — an additional app launch button on the side. We thought this was really cool as we could configure it to launch two apps at the same time so we could listen to music and look at our calendar with just a single touch. We found ourselves using it quite often. The S6 Active sports the same amazing camera as the Galaxy S6 with its f/1.9 aperture, pro modes, and video recording that includes 4K and even slow motion capture. Pictures with the Active are incredible as well.

With 32GB storage capacity galaxy s6 active is far way small in such a phone that support 4K video. And every body knows 1080 video can take 1mb/ sec so what one have to do with 4K video recorder in such a small 32GB memory. It’s no use.
